The Universal Law of Karma deals with cause and effect, where everything you do, say, think or feel creates a circumstantial event in your life experience as a result. In other words, whatever you say and think, and however you treat yourself and/or others, will create an effect on you and/or them. Depending on the motivating intention behind the action, the result will have either a positive or negative effect in yours, and/or the other person’s life. That is the simplest, most basic explanation I can possibly offer you on this subject for the purpose of this article.
What I will say though is that, Karma is not the big bad wolf that most attribute it to be. Karma it is not necessarily a bad thing, it is not a ball and chain, dooming you because of past deeds. It is not an endless deal with fate. It is not you being doomed to a hellish life of pain and turmoil because of your past actions, no. The Law of Karma has more to do with how you use your power, and how it will influence and affect the circumstances you experience in life as a result, than it is about afflicting punishment.
The Law of Karma, in essence, is more about a lesson in responsibility, than it is the ‘payback time’ that most think it is. It is my belief that our children can, and should be taught about this type of responsibility from an early age. It is our job as adults to help them understand how their choices, actions and intentions creates their life circumstances, and affects others’ lives too. However, to be able to do this, we adults must first be able to take responsibility for how our choices and actions affect our lives, and the lives of the other people around us.
Learning about the Law of Karma, both directly and indirectly, is a central component of my kids’ yoga classes, and private sessions and my online program. The reason I focus so much on this is because the center of a child’s power comes from knowing that he has the ability to create his own life, while influencing others, via his own thought, action, words and intention.
Children need to learn that they are powerful beyond measure. They also need to know how to use their power for constructive reasons by reigning it in, harnessing it, and channeling it out in empowering, creative and constructive ways. If a child’s power and creative ability is unharnessed, and is left to run free, fuelled by underlying feelings of anger, frustration, feeling misunderstood, feeling lost, unheard, unrecognized and confused, then they can become a force to be reckoned with for the worst through acts of rebellion and lashing out.
Unfortunately, I believe that so many children are in situations like this these days as they are being labeled right and left with sickening diagnosis such as ADHD because they are simply misunderstood, and/or unable to conform to a system, situation or environment that doesn’t suit who they are, not support their learning style, or recognizing and nurturing their creative ability and talents, while restraining their ability to know who they truly are, what they want, and what they are capable of. This is a sad story for so many kids in today’s world.
That being said, it is so fortunately that these days, many parents, teachers and caregivers and placing more and more importance on raising their kids differently, more holistically. I am so happy that focus in education is becoming more and more about the children, and the importance of giving them proper holistic education and nurturing their emotional intelligence and self-awareness from an early age. There are so many tools available today to help us nurture and guide our children to develop solid self-awareness, and emotional intelligence, and I am personally so happy and proud to have been able to create my online kids yoga & mindfulness program.
